March 6, 2015 - Mickey Gilley at the Shoctor Theatre in Edmonton
The man who once owned the longest bar in the world, Gilley's Place, in Pasadena, Texas, which was made famous in the 1980 film, Urban Cowboy, played the Shoctor Theatre in Edmonton on March 6, 2015. Gilley played piano, much like his cousin, Jerry Lee Lewis, who he grew up with, and had a total of 17 Number 1 country hits in the 1970's and 1980's, including two of his signature tunes, "Don't The Girls All Get Prettier At Closing Time", and "Room Full Of Roses". Gilley was one of the first country acts to open a theatre in Branson, Missouri. In 2009 he suffered a fall while helping to move some furniture. The accident left him temporarily paralyzed from the neck down. Through intense therapy he has recovered, but he is still unable to play the piano. (photography by Drew Borgwardt).
