October 6, 2014 - George Canyon at Festival Place
George Canyon brought his "Decade of Hits" cross-Canada tour to Festival Place on October 6th, 2014. As the name implied, George was celebrating his 10 year career since appearing on the US based Nashville Star program as the only Canadian, and coming in second place. It also happens to be the name of his new greatest hits album. In a gutsy move, considering he was deep in the heart of Edmonton Oilers hockey territory, George came out sporting a Calgary Flames cap. He told the audience that the explanation why would be made in a couple of days, and it indeed was when it was announced that George is the official anthem singer for all home games of the Flames for the 2014-2015 season. Host Stella Stevens of CFCW introduced George by bringing out a life size cutout that had been used to promote Country Music Week in Edmonton. During the show George tested his auctioneering skills, selling the figure for charity. Opening for George was a young fellow from BC, Beamer, who wowed the crowd with is personality, guitar skills and vocal ability.
